Problems with near vision often become apparent when an individual is about 40 years old. Around this age, the eye begins to lose its focusing ability, a condition commonly referred to as presbyopia.
Presbyopia can be treated simply with a pair of over the counter reading glasses. However if you are also experiencing difficulty with your distance vision, there may be a surgical alternative for you such as CLEAR™.
St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute is pleased to offer patients a procedure known as CLEAR™, or clear lens extraction and replacement. When performing this procedure, Dr. Pit Gills replaces the eye’s natural lens with an intraocular lens.
Prior to surgery, Dr. Gills will numb the eye with anesthetic drops. He will then remove the natural lens through a tiny incision and replace it with a new intraocular lens (IOL). Once inserted, the intraocular lens will increase the patient’s focusing power, significantly improving vision.
If you are over the age of 40 and are interested in permanent vision correction, you may be a candidate for clear lens extraction and replacement. Contact Dr. Pit Gills today to learn more about CLEAR™.
